![]() ![]() I took my time selecting a color and install was set for a week after ordering. The measuring guy was supposed to test baseboard paint for lead but did not. There was also a $16 charge to test for lead because my house was built before 1970 something. I make all my major purchased on American Express because it gives me extra rights and leverage if I am unhappy with a transaction. Be aware they can put a LIEN on your home if you don't pay the contract. You get three days to cancel contract after signing it. There were also charges for tack strip and removing shoe moulding. REVIEW your order to make sure you are not charged for more than 5-10% carpet overage unless you have a patterned carpet. Lowe's was having their free Deluxe install sale. It was considerably more expensive at non-big box stores so I came back to Lowe's. Because of my rooms dimensions I chose the 15' width. It is a "branded" name for Lowe's but its real name is Home News III by Shaw carpet. I chose Intuition III carpet at $1.98 sqft. Is that helpful? I'm definitely open to the carpet stores but have to make sure things can get done in a few weeks or I can't get my furniture and/or use my living room! Thanks again! My numbers could be completely off and again this wasn't a firm quote anyway. I didn't get prices at Home Depot, just looked around. Not sure if that makes a difference in costs. The carpet store gave me a roundabout verbal quote on 350 sq feet with install and padding for about $1500 ( I think the carpet was around 3.50 sq/ft with 20% off?). I had limited time and the salesman did too. The first two inquiries I made were brief. I am going to lowes and a different carpet store today to see more about it. Yet, I don't want to skimp on style/quality. Unfortunately I have to get this done fast and don't want to wait the extra time without carpet. Best of luck to you.Ĭompletely Floored, I see where you are coming from and tend to gravitate to the flooring specialty stores too but they can't get things in for me in time. ![]() You are welcome to send me your quote from any store, I will review and tell you if you are getting a good deal. Often they can get the install sooner if you find decent material in stock. See if you have a "stocking dealer" in your area. Not there fault but lack of training and time in the industry plays a major role. The people behind the counter tell a great deal of miss-information. That's where the low install prices are made up. ![]() They mark up there pad astronomically, the have a lot of "extra" charges that a lot of "professional" flooring stores do not. Because I am a business owner and am also in the business of educating my customers I will tell you simple facts: The box stores do not pay there installers nothing or 37.00 to install the carpet nor would we. It is simply a play on numbers especially if they are offering a free or 37.00 install etc. In most cases we are exactly the same but our installers are being shown as paid what they really get and deserve. I have a hundred Home Depot and Lowes carpet quotes from customers who bring them in to see if we can beat there price. I have been in the flooring business for a long time. When you get in to more secure pressure sensitive adhesives, laminating, mounting, or transfer adhesives that will hold the template rock solid, the work that goes in to prepping, applying, and removing the template will often be far more than figuring out a layout of mechanical fasteners instead. Here is the deal. Then again, you also may run some risk of slipping, or vibrations at the joint leaving a less than clean edge.Īny adhesive that will remove easily without aid of solvents is by design a fairly weak adhesive. It's forgiving of imperfect surfaces, should hold well enough for decently clean cuts if you have enough surface area, and will usually clean up relatively easily if you don't leave it on any longer than necessary. If you can not find any reasonable way to secure the template with mechanical fasteners though (clamps or screws), then you are probably best off just using standard indoor/outdoor carpet tape from your local hardware. Temporarily securing router templates is not one of those applications these adhesives are especially designed or ideally suited for. "Double sided tape" is an incredibly broad category with thousands of very different products that cover hundreds of applications. ![]()
